Reveal in Me Yourself
BACKGROUND
John 5:16-20, 30
This portion of scripture provides inspiration for the song “Reveal in Me Yourself”. From other places in the Bible, we know that Jesus, Son of God, regularly spent time seeking, praying and talking with his heavenly Father. Here we learn that Jesus has observed that his father “is always at his work” and in response to harsh questions about what Jesus was doing, he said, “I too am working.” Further, Jesus confessed, “the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. By myself I can do nothing… for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.”
Since Jesus, our brother, guide and example, was completely committed to watch his Father at work and then imitate him, how much more should we draw close to Father God in prayer to learn what he sees and does, where he goes and what he loves?
From the song lyrics:
“Anoint me with Your sight.
Employ me in Your work.
Lead me in Your way.
Fill me with Your love.
My Father, reveal in me Yourself”
