And He Will Reign
Background
GOOD NEWS!
Perhaps the most famous and beloved chorus from Handle’s “Messiah” is the amazing Hallelujah Chorus which includes these lines drawn from the Book of Revelation, chapter 11, verse 15:
“The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ
And He shall reign for ever and ever”
In early January 2013, I still had these lines (familiar to me from having sung this oratorio countless times through the years) running around in my brain after listening to The Messiah during the recent Christmas season. I was inspired to try my hand at putting these well-known words to my own music, as audacious as that may sound. Thus began my writing of “And He Will Reign”.
The song quickly became a proclamation of the “good news”, starting with the “lowly birth for Heaven’s King” to His earth-years spent “showing the way”; from His substitutionary death on a cross and bodily resurrection, to becoming Conqueror and Messiah King; and finally, Jesus is revealed as the fulfillment of God’s promises and the redeemer of all creation. The Kingdom of God has come, and it is emerging in our world. That is the Good News! Gloria! Hallelujah!
“And He will reign, forever!
The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord
And of His Christ”
