Lament, Is Our God Enough?

by John Miner

I wrote most of this song 23 years ago, then set it aside not sure what it was for, rediscovering it this spring in the midst of a global pandemic and social unrest. It seems to fit the challenges facing us in 2020.

It takes the form of a Biblical lament (a prayer for help out of pain), which can be found in several books of the Bible. In this case, the pattern is: Vs. 1 – protest (tell God what is wrong); Vs. 2 – petition (tell God how to fix it); and Vs. 3 – praise (glorify God in faith believing the answer is at hand). Plus, there are instrumental sections for meditation and contemplation.

Rick Drake commands the keyboards while I cover the guitars and vocals in this recording. Perhaps you will find expression for your fears, frustrations and hopes in “Lament, Is Our God Enough?”.
